WELCOME TO THE FARM

Monday

62 years old is coming like a freight train and all my gardening muscles are telling me it's true. I don't mind getting older. Really.. It's true. I'm old enough to have a grandson that came out to stay the last three days and garden with me. What a joy to spend such quality time with him - with the added benefit of being outside in this beautiful weather. I garden because it is a challenge and fun and exercise and so rewarding. The gardens provide a place for my art and for sharing with friends and family. Provides healthy good foods and beauty. I don't play music while outside nor listen to talking books. I listen to birds, nature and my grandson, that's the best entrainment of all. I have a gardening business of selling bedding plants and some retail garden things - to make enough money to defray the expenses of the gardening and to give me a sence of GET IT DONE before the season opening. That is one thing about being a "little older" , I don't garden all day anymore...just four hours in the cool of mornings.

  1. Hi Melody,
I enjoyed the article about you and your business in the Lincoln paper this morning. I am leaving a comment here, first, because I will be 60 in September. While I have never been that didn't want to reveal my age, and even looked forward to senior discounts, I am noticing that I don't have the stamina I used to. I am a paraeduator at a high school and have the summers off, but am thinking about retiring early and substituting so I can have more time in the garden. I live in town on a small lot, but also garden across the street and have a couple beds at my church.

It's good to know there are other Nebraska garden bloggers out there.
