This is mexican sunflower.  It's an annual.  I have a posting (earlier in this blog) about this plant, but this is such a beautiful photo I had to show.

You can start Mexican sunflower from seed (indoors) about March first for a 
end of April planting.  Starting any earlier will result in very leggy plants that will flop over and
won't transplant into the garden bed very well. (if at all)
